[ Summary ] |
Patients with diabetic renal failure show hyperLDL-emia and hyperVLDL-emia in some stages of their condition, due to the excretion of protein in their urine (nephrotic syndrome). After long-term hemodialysis, however, the effects of the nephrotic syndrome disappear, and abnormal metabolism of lipoprotein, characterized by hyperVLDL-emia, hyperIDL-emia, and hypoHDL-emia become the characteristics seen in patients with non-diabetic renal failure. Failure of VLDL catabolism, based on decreased relative LPL activity, and decreased HTGL activity seems to be a cause as well, in patients with non-diabetic renal failure. |
