[ Summary ] Kidney Disease Quality of Life (KDQOLTM) instrument (dialysis version) is a self-report measure that includes a Mos Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) as the generic core, supplemented with multi-item scales targeted at particular concerns of individuals with kidney disease who are on dialysis (symptoms/problems, effects of kidney disease on daily life, burden of kidney disease, cognitive function, work status, sexual function, quality of social interaction, sleep).
This paper reviews the description by Hays et al.(1994) and discusses the present status in the U.S.A. and the possibility of QOL study in Japan. We are developing the KDQOLTM-Japanese version and, after validation, a survey of the difference in QOL between HD and CAPD patients is planned.
