The nursing of CAPD patients includes not only the direct observation and nursing of patients, but also support allowing an improved quality of life (QOL). Specifically, supporting patients so that they can maintain their QOL with self-managed CAPD is an important aspect of care. In order to support patients with actual nursing needs, professional clinical knowledge, technology and the ability to guide self-management, counselling (understanding and negotiating), nursing expertise, and ability as a medical team coordinator are necessary. The primary duty of a nursing specialist, in caring for CAPD patients, is to continuously support each patient's life goals and respect their individuality, allowing them to live their own lives as independently as possible.
