[ Summary ] Pulmonary embolism is one of the most severe complications in hemodialysis patients. Ordinarily, blood circulates in the closed system and maintains a constant temperature. However, hemodialysis is administerd under extra-body circulation and unstable temperatures. Arterio-venous shunting also produces venous thrombosis and occurs pulmonary thrombosis. This is a review of the mechanism of pulmonary embolism under such special circumstances in hemodialysis.
