[ Summary ] |
We experienced 2 cases of cadaveric renal transplantation (RTx) who had been on hemodialysis (HD) treatment for 21.0 and 26.3 years. These cases had complications peculiar to long-term HD, such as dialysis-related amyloidosis, hypotension, shunt failure, secondary hyperparathyroidism and severe arteriosclerosis. They were in a condition that really requires an other mode of therapy like RTx. Successful RTx brought them an excellent quality of life in medical aspects. However, the sudden change in life style also caused psychological problems. We conclude that a history of very long-term dialysis and its complications does not interfere with RTx and the RTx will provide excellent QOL but psychological care is mandatory, especially in long dialysis patients. |
