[ Summary ] Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are composed of saturated eight-and ten-carbon chain fatty acids-caprylic and capric, respectively, MCTs are not metabolized like conventional fats. MCTs do not require enzymes or bile salts and are absorbed intact into the instestine. MCTs are oxidized in the liver to supply quick energy, MCT products, such as MACTON (trademark), are excellent energy sources for patients requiring high calorie foods.
