| [ Summary ] | Among those with renal insufficiency secondary to diabetic nephropathy, more patients have relatively mild hyperparathyroidism syndrome than chronic glomerulonephritis. Other characteristics of these cases are : reduction of bone-salt is severe ; there is a relatively large number of cases with associated aluminum accumulation, a high frequency of bone pain or pathologic fracture, and others. Methods of prevention and treatment include supplementation of active vitamin D3, limiting phosphorus in meals, controling the serum phosphorus concentration with phosphorus binding agents, removal of aluminum with deferoxamine, and others. The clinical importance of the prevention and treatment will increase in accordance with the increasing number of patients receiving chronic dialysis due to diabetes. | |
