| [ Summary ] | The efficacy of magnifying colonoscopy for patients with inflammatory bowel disease is a consideration for medical treatment and the estimation of prognosis, or the detection of initial lesions with inflammatory bowel disease. Some articles have shown a well defined relationship between magnifying colonoscopy finding and the grade of histological inflammation or prognosis in patients with ulcerative colitis. On the other hand, aphthoid lesions are well known as the initial lesions related to Crohn's disease. Some papers have reported aphthoid lesion to be the initial lesions related to ulcerative colitis. Additionally, magnifying colonoscopy can detect lymphoid hyperplasia as an additional initial lesion, related to Crohn's disease. Magnifying colonoscopy is not always necessary for patients with inflammatory bowel disease in clinical studies. It is important when performing clinical functions for inflammatory bowel disease that a knowledge of magnifying colonoscopic findings for patients with inflammatory bowel disease be put to practical use with conventional colonoscopy for patients with this condition. | |
