[ Summary ] In order to discover the frequency of superficial depressed type colorectal neoplasia (adenoma and carcinoma), five original papers reporting the data from prospective studies performed in foreign countries were reviewed.
The conclusions were as follows: It was speculated that the superficial depressed type of colorectal neoplasia were found through colonoscopy in five to twenty-two persons per thousand population. These lesions were speculated to be detected through colonoscopy at a rate of four to sixty three colorectal lesions per thousand. However, those data are very diverse and further large scale studies in foreign countries are required.
