[ Summary ] In the growth and development of colorectal cancer, changes in tumor configurations were ob served in our series. Of the 7 mucosal cancers, 17 submucosal cancers, 12 muscularis propria cancers and 23 serosal cancers, there were cases of configu ration changes from polypoid cancer to non-polypoid cancer in 0/7, 2/17 (11.8%), 2/12 (16.7%) and 9/23 (39.1%) respectively. In the course of downward invasion of cancer, polypoid cancers frequently changed configuration. From these observations, it was concluded that the estimation of initial features is difficult in massively invasive cancers such as submucosal massively invasive cancer or advanced cancers.
