[ Summary ] EUS has become an important modality for the diagnosis and staging of colorectal diseases. However, echo-colonoscopes require some improvements in their ability to be manipulated because they are at a diasadvantage when inserted into the oral site of the sigmoid colon. Because of these conditions, an echo-colonoscope (XCF-UMPQ230) has been developed. This more advanced scope is of a smaller caliber, has a shorter distal rigid portion, and the scanning range has been widened from 300 degrees to 360 degrees. This scope can be easily inserted into the ileocecal region and inverted in the ascending colon. The newly developed echo colonoscope is a useful tool for not only EUS but also standard colonoscopy.
