Four hundred forty nine colorectal cancers detected by total colonoscopy at our outpatient department (outpatient group), were also reviewed as a control sample. The results were as follows 1) The rate (84.6%), of early colorectal cancers in the screening group was significantly higher than that (36.3%), in the outpatient group.
2) The size of cancers (19.5 +- 14.2mm) in the screening group was smaller than that (65.1 +- 11.6mm), in the outpatient group.
3) The rate (87.8%) of Dukes stage A in the screening group was significantly higher than that (43.2%), in the outpatient group.
