[ Summary ] On the basis of radiographic retrospective analysis, growth rates of twelve submucosally invasive cancers were studied. Comparison of growth rates was made between six cancers with non-polypoid growth (NPG) and six cancers with polypoid growth (PG). In addition, comparison of growth rates was made between eight cancers with low grade atypia and four cancers with high grade atypia. Growth rates of NPG cancers were not higher than those of PG cancers. However, growth rates of cancers with high grade atypia were significantly higher than those of low grade atypia. In conclusion, it was suggested that growth rates of early cancer depended on the cancer cell atypia, not on the growth patterns.
