| [ Summary ] | More than 95 % recurrences after curative resection of colorectal cancer have been reported to occur within 5 years of surgery. Therefore, the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum (JSCCR) guidelines 2019 for the treatment of colorectal cancer, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines (in the United States), and the European Society for Medical Oncology guidelines (in Europe) commonly recommend postoperative surveillance for 5 years in these patients. However, the surveillance interval and inspection method differ among the different guidelines, with no consensus among these. In addition, while the Japanese guidelines set a common schedule for Stages Ⅰ to Ⅲ, the NCCN guidelines set it for each stage. In the future, it will be necessary to consider postoperative surveillance by stage in Japan as well. | |
