[ Summary ] A colorectal cancer (CRC) screening project (Project A) was conducted to reduce CRC morbidity and mortality in the Aomori Prefecture population. The screening intervention targeted people in their 50s, living in Aomori or Hirosaki city, who had not undergone CRC screening for at least 5 years. Of the 51,541 participants, 9,810 were included in this project. The participants chose the fecal occult blood test opy (TCS, n= 1,338), or (FOBT, n= 6,399), total colonosc both (n= 2,073) as the screening method. The FOBT was positive in 505 patients, and 74.3 % (n= 375) of them underwent TCS as a follow-up examination, which detected 34 CRC cases (including suspected cases). Among applicants who chose TCS as the screening method, 24 were diagnosed with CRC (including suspected cases). The outline of this project has been introduced as a reference when considering colonoscopy introduction for CRC screening in the future.
