[ Summary ] Endoscopic electroincision has been attempted as treatment for refractory strictures in Crohn's disease owing to the limitations of endoscopic balloon dilation and surgery in such cases. Reportedly, the risk of restenosis and anal sphincter injury is lower with endoscopic electroincision than with balloon dilation. However, endoscopic electroincision is associated with a higher risk of bleeding. Currently, this procedure is performed only at a limited number of hospitals/health care centers; therefore, its efficacy and safety need to be validated by large-scale studies.
