[ Summary ] Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) is defined as bleeding of unknown origin that occurs after an endoscopy (colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy) shows negative results in Japan at 2010. OGIB can be categorized as 'overt' (ongoing or previous) and 'occult' bleeding based on recurrent or persistent iron deficiency anemia and/or positive fecal blood test results. However, in cases without anemia and abnormalities on colonoscopic examination are excluded. Be careful when you use the acronym 'OGIB' in Japan, because those definitions are unclear.
