[ Summary ] Endocrine tumors including both carcinoid tumors and endocrine cell carcinoma may be observed in all organs. Epidemiology, histological classification, hormones produced, histology and genetic abnormalities of the tumors are slightly different depending on the particular organ. Characteristics of the carcinoid in the large intestine obtained by making comparisons between other organs. Most rectal carcinoid tumors are derive from L-cells. The trabecular pattern is predominant, histologically. Those conditions are not closely associated with the MEN1 gene and have good prognoses. Endocrine cell carcinoma of the large intestine is extremely rare.
