[ Summary ] Colonoscopes are classified into 3 types consisting of the ultra thin type, thin type and thick type. With the thin type scope, there is little pain in comparison to thick type scopes used in sigmoid dolichocolon patients, as well as cases involving adhesions and slender patients. On the other hand, insertion efficiency for obese patients is inferior. Right sided colon insertion with thin scopes is inferior compared to that conducted with thick scopes. We must understand the characteristics of using thin scopes. It is important we use adjunct methods so that methods to vary hand pressure or to change position may be used to compensate for problems with insertion.
