[ Summary ] Informed consent is a concept in which the patient agrees to his or her examination and treatment while understanding their own medical condition and treatment plan as explained by their medical staff. Recently, this concept has become popular and is necessary for all medical practices. To achieve informed consent for colonoscopy, we should be aware of appropriate indications and possible contraindications. We need to make patients understand enough of the risks of adverse events-associated with colonoscopy because the proportion of deaths due to adverse events during colonoscopy is higher than other endoscopic procedures. So we should perform colonoscopies with adequate informed consent.
