[ Summary ] The risk of ulcerative colitis associated colorectal cancer (UCAC) increases with the extent and duration of ulcerative colitis. Therefore, cancer surveillance is recommended. However, it is difficult to detect early lesions originating from flat mucosa with active inflammation. Most lesions, especially those of the superficial type can be identified by their red color. We emphasize that careful examination and selection of the high-risk group using chromoendoscopy and magnifying endoscopy is essential to detect early lesions.
