[ Summary ] | In the long-term course of Crohn's disease (CD), cancer related complications have drawn attention as being problematic. In Japan, cases of CD-related colorectal cancer (CRC) have increased in recent years. A characteristic of CRC in Japan is that it is common in the rectum and anal regions. Many longterm complications in the rectal anal region lesions are observed. As a result, it is difficult to conduct a precise examination due to stenosis and pain, often associated with advanced cancer diagnosis. Therefore, the prognosis for patients with CD and associated CRC is poor. Extensive CD lesions, long-term morbidity, juvenile onset, and anal region lesions are known to be risk factors. Endoscopic diagnosis is often not easy, but the number of cases detected early using endoscopes has increased. Use of this cancer surveillance method will improve prognose for patients with CD-related CRC. |
