[ Summary ] There have been several descriptions of the relationship between trisomy 8 associated, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and intestinal Behçet's disease (BD). It has also been reported that intestinal ulcers occur more frequently in MDS patients with trisomy 8 than those without. These observations strongly suggest that trisomy 8 plays an important role in the pathogenesis of intestinal ulcers. Furthermore, widespread use of enteroscopy, including balloon-assisted endoscopy and capsule endoscopy has contributed to the detection of small bowel lesions in patients with BD and trisomy 8. Since recent literature suggests that trisomy 8 is associated with refractory conditions and poor prognoses for intestinal BD, further research on the topic, particulary the association between trisomy 8 and intestinal ulcers, seems essential.
