[ Summary ] Cold polypectomy, which is now dramatically spreading in Japan, was originally developed in the 1980's. However, it was one of the procedures to remove small or diminutive colorectal polyps used by a limited number of endoscopists even in Western countries. It appears to be rapidly gaining in popularity all over the world, based on the results of some clinical trials. Hence, although additional information is needed and residual polyps may be a concern to be cautious about, cold polypectomy can be an important technique to remove small or diminutive colorectal polyps.
