[ Summary ] Endoscopic treatment for polyposis of the small intestine is performed to prevent development of cancer, as well as to prevent complications due to polyp enlargement, such as intussusception and bleeding. Endoscopic management of small bowel polyps in Peutz-Jeghers syndrome patients is useful for reducing polyp size, preventing intussusception, and avoiding laparotomy. Some patients with familial adenomatous polyposis develop adenomas in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum, in addition to the colon and rectum. Endoscopic resection of small bowel polyps has been used in an attempt to reduce the risk of carcinogenesis.
