[ Summary ] The therapeutic goal in Crohn's disease has changed from clinical remission to sustained endoscopic mucosal healing in order to reduce hospitalizations and operations. Fecal calprotectin level has emerged as a non-invasive surrogate marker of intestinal inflammation and can be an important tool for monitoring the response to medical therapy, predicting clinical relapse and monitoring postoperative status. Early intervention or treatment optimization with monitoring of fecal calprotectin levels can change the prognosis of patients with Crohn's disease.
