| [ Summary ] | Recently, the diagnosis of early colon cancer has accomplished remarkable progress, and the importance of depressed-type early colorectal carcinomas is now recognized. Initially, depressed-type early colorectal carcinomas were called "phantom" carcinomas because of their rare occurrence. Although the incidence of depressed-type early colorectal carcinomas is still deemed rare, taking into account the difficulty of detection of such lesions on colonoscopy and their rapid growth, many cases may have been overlooked. Herein, we describe the history, development, and diagnosis of depressed-type early colorectal carcinoma. | |
