[ Summary ] We compared the clinical features and endoscopic findings observed with cytomegalovirus (CMV) enteritis and CMV colitis. The rate of patients with severe immunodeficiency due to CMV enteritis is higher than that observed with CMV colitis. Patients with CMV enteritis exhibited massive bleeding and abdominal pain. In contrast, patients with CMV colitis primarily had diarrhea and bleeding. Massive bleeding was observed in approximately half of the cases. The rate of emergency operation for CMV enteritis is significantly higher than those for CMV colitis. Endoscopic findings for CMV enteritis are primarily irregular or annular ulcers. On the other hand, endoscopic findings for CMV colitis are primarily rounded ulcers.
