| [ Summary ] | Japan is becoming a super aged society. This demographic trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Japanese colorectal cancer screening is initiated at the age of 40. However, the upper age limit at which we should stop screening has not been determined. Since it is considered that screening is not effective for elderly persons who have shorter life expectancies, we should take into account their backgrounds such as projected life expectancy and underlying health conditions. There is a possibility that it may be effective to perform total colonoscopies early on to prevent the elderly from being inadequately screened. | |
