[ Summary ] Patients with acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) associated with antithrombotic therapy requiring colonoscopic hemostasis should be considered at higher risk of rebleeding. Interruption of antithrombotic therapy following a GIB is associated with increased risk of thrombosis and death, thus the decision to stop and/or resume antithrombotic therapy, must be weighed against the risk of thromboembolic events. However, there is limited data available concerning the management of antithrombotic therapy for acute GIB. Further studies are needed to elucidate the usefulness of alternative therapy or risk reduction strategies.
