[ Summary ] | Balloon-assisted endoscopy has enabled us to remove foreign bodies from the small intestine. In practice, severity of the patient's condition, number and kind of foreign bodies, as well as the existence of passage failure through the small intestine may be revealed initially from detailed histories and imaging performed with X-ray CTs., Certain foreign bodies may be closely observed until evacuation. Foreign bodies which are swallowed are evacuated spontaneously in eighty to ninety percent of cases. However, sharp pointed objects or toxic material should be promptly removed with balloon-assisted endoscopy. |
