[ Summary ] Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as low-dose aspirin are widely used and reduce the risk of vascular events in patients with cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases. On the other hand, NSAIDs are well known to cause adverse effects such as gastroduodenal mucosal lesions. Ileocecal and colonic mucosal lesions can also be caused by NSIAD treatment. More recently, NSAIDs have been reported to also induce microscopic colitis, in forms such as collagenous colitis especially in elderly women.
