[ Summary ] Thiopurines have long been used to treat ulcerative colitis and are significantly effective medications when properly employed. However, we must be familiar with possible side effects and monitor patients appropriately. Although the role of thiopurines in induction therapy is limited, the efficacy of initial treatment with infliximab as well as tacrolimus is expected to be proven soon.
