| [ Summary ] | The term "sessile serrated adenoma/polyp (SSA/P)" is widely accepted. However, the histopathological diagnostic criteria for this condition are not well-understood. Traditional serrated adenomas are obvious neoplasias. On the other hand, hyperplastic polyps (HP) and SSA/Ps are serrated lesions, which can not be determined to be obvious neoplasias. SSA/P exhibits irregular structures and irregular distribution of swollen nuclei, which are not observed in HPs. According to the proposed diagnostic criteria, SSA/P are defined as those with more than two of the three following findings : 1) dilation of crypts, 2) irregularly branching crypts and 3) deformation in the horizontal direction of crypt bases) consisting of more than 10 % of the area of the lesion. | |
