[ Summary ] Antibiotic-associated hemorrhagic colitis (AAHC) usually occurres after antibiotic treatment. Patients having AAHC typically complain of acute abdominal pain and bloody stools. AAHC developes several days after taking of semisynthetic penicillin or other antibiotics. AAHC is segmental and predominantly located in the right or transverse colon. Colonoscopy shows edematous mucosa and erosion with submucosal hemorrhage. Although cause of AAHC is not known, however, recently K.oxytoca is the causative organism in at least some cases.
