[ Summary ] Recently, the incidence of colonic diverticulosis is expected to increase due to decreased intake of dietary fiber and mucosal fragility associated with aging. Although colonic diverticulosis is usually asymptomatic, diverticulitis and diverticular bleeding occur occasionally. Colonic diverticular bleeding causes sudden, painless hematochezia with massive bleeding. Hypertension, hyperuricemia, and the use of steroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are risk factors for colonic diverticular bleeding. Use of low dose aspirin may be a risk factor for colonic diverticular bleeding, but further studies on this subject are required.
