[ Summary ] Many therapeutic agents affect gastrointestinal motility, and constipation or diarrhea is a well-known adverse effect of many useful drugs. Diarrhea is a side effect of prokinetics and prostaglandin E. Many medicines such as opiate analgesics, anticholinergic agents, antidepressants, antipsychotics and calcium channel blockers may produce these results also. Specific attention and monitoring of these adverse reactions over the course of treatment are required. Cases involving side effects warrant early treatment.
