| [ Summary ] | Inflammatory bowel diseases are complex and multifactorial disorders. Recent genome-wide association studies have shown a total of 99 inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) susceptibility loci as well as clues for the etiopathogenesis of IBD. These results strongly suggest that IL23 pathway plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of IBD. In addition, defective processing of intracellular bacteria and dysfunction of epithelial barrier are revealed to be suggestive disease pathway for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, respectively. | |
