| [ Summary ] | Sporadic cases of intestinal tuberculosis are still commonly experienced. Knowledge of this disorder is important since the symptoms and distribution of lesions experienced with it are similar to those seen with Crohn's disease. In intestinal tuberculosis, bacteriological confirmation is often unsuccessful. Imaging modalities (endoscopy and X-rays) are indispensable for diagnosis. The characteristic features of this disorder include ulcerations in circular arrangements or irregularly shaped ulcers with red halos, shortening of the right side of the colon, patent ileocecal valve, widespread scarred and atrophic mucosa, concentric and symmetrical narrowing, and the coexistence of active and healed lesions. Radiological examination is still useful for the recognition of intestinal deformities. | |
