[ Summary ] Organisms associated with infectious enterocolitis are primarily bacteria, viruses and parasites. Characteristic findings from colonoscopies and, radiography of the small intestine and abdominal computed tomography (CT) are noted. Bacterial enterocolitis may be classified as the invasive type or toxic type. Differences between the two types of image structures must be understood. Lymph node swelling, wall thickness and distribution are important in obtaining a differential diagnosis using abdominal CTs. Abdominal CT scans are useful for evaluating forms of infectious enterocolitis, such as Yersinia enterocolitis or enterohemorrhagic E. coli enterocolitis.
