[ Summary ] Infectious enteritis is classified into categories involving cases due to microorganisms viruses, bacteria, and others. Noroviruses and rotaviruses are commonly observed viral pathogens. Campylobacter, Salmonella, and enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) are causative bacteria associated with infective enteritis. We can determine infectious enteritis trends in Japan through reports from the Infectious Disease Surveillance Center, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and reports from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Recent trends concerning infectious enteritis suggest that the number of patients infected with noroviruses and Campylobacter has increased. Norovirus infections occur mainly in the winter and Campylobacter infections do so mainly in the summer.
