| [ Summary ] | Autofluorescence Imaging (AFI) is a novel technology for endoscopy, which enhances neoplastic lesions in the gastrointestinal tract. In order to elucidate whether dysplastic lesions associated with ulcerative colitis (UC) can be observed by AFI, we examined 48 patients with inactive UC with AFI colonoscopy. AFI colonoscopy was used to identify 14 dysplastic lesions in four patients. Eleven lesions were protruding and the other three were flat. Autofluorescence, as determined with AFI, was regarded to be low in 12 lesions and to be normal in two lesions. We concluded that AFI colonoscopy can identify dysplastic UC lesions. However, a prospective study is necessary to establish the diagnostic accuracy of this procedure for UC treatment. | |
