| [ Summary ] | A 30-year old woman, who has suffered ulcerative colitis for 12 years, underwent a total colonoscopy. Examination showed a laterally spreading tumor (LST) in the rectosigmoid colon. The lesion consisted of a granular section and a non granular section. Enhanced magnification endoscopy showed type IIIs and VI pit patterns per Kudo's classification. Biopsy specimens taken from type VI pit patterns revealed well differentiated adenocarcinoma. High anterior resection was performed two years ago, and no evidence of a relapse of ulcerative colitis nor recurrence of cancer after surgery were observed. Colitic cancer, similar to LST, is considered to be rare. |
