[ Summary ] The endoscopic resection of gastrointestinal tumors has increased in recent years, and detailed pathological examinations have become possible. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has made it possible to conduct examinations for giant tumors.
However, in the colon, it is very difficult to use ESD easily and safely, due to the characteristics of this organ.
ESD requires the operation of a scope and a forceps simultaneously. This operation demands more skill in a small cavity like the colon. Therefore, new devices are hoped for to produce safe and efficient ESD for colorectal tumors.
Peripherally insulated scissor type forceps are being developed. This forceps can make it possible to operate without the complicated motions of a scope and a forceps in a small cavity, producing safety and efficiency. The peripherally insulated scissor type forceps will have the potential to produce progress in the use of ESD for colorectal tumors.
