[ Summary ] |
Trans-sacral excision is a surgical procedure for localized rectal cancer, which is less invasive than laparotomy and makes it possible to harvest perirectal regional lymph nodes. This procedure is indicated for patients having tumors which are ; 1) impossible to remove by endoscopic techniques or trans-anal approaches. 2) located the lower rectum at or above 5 cm of the anal verge and the upper rectum. 3) adenoma or early cancer having no apparent lymph node metastasis as observed with preoperative images. In addition, this procedure may be employed for poor risk patients who cannot receive lapalotomies, even if the patients have T2 rectal cancer or T1 rectal cancer with enlarged perirectal lymph nodes detected by preoperative clinical images. |
