Narrow Band Imaging technology is a type of optical image enhancer, employing changes in the spectrum of illumination used by the video endoscope from conventional white illumination. By utilizing NBI, contrast in capillary patterns in the superficial layer is markedly improved. The basis of an imaging scheme for NBI is described. Interactions between tissues and light, such as absorption and scattering, are also explained as the basic knowledge required to understand NBI. System configuration is described, including optical filter design and color image processing methodologies. |
