[ Summary ] The diagnostic ability of magnifying endoscopy in determining the depth of invasion in 61 lesions of submucosally invasive colorectal cancer is analyzed. All lesion were observed by magnified endoscopic imaging after crystal violet dye staining. Type VN pit patterns were not sufficient to predict submucosal massively invasive cancers. We decided to consider type VI (irregular) pit patterns as highly irregular when the pits are narrow and ragged. When VN pit patterns and highly irregular VI pit patterns were combined, the prediction of submucosal massively cancers became more accurate. The sensitivity and overall accuracy was higher than with VN pit patterns alone.
