[ Summary ] In our institute, emergency colonoscopy was often necessary for patients with the following conditions : ischemic colitis, bleeding after endoscopic mucosal resection, polypectomies, acute hemorrhagic rectal ulcers, torsion of the sigmoid colon or diverticula of the colon. 89 % of all cases were colonic hemorrhagic diseases. In 88 % of those cases an endoscopic clipping technique was performed for treatment of bleeding. This technique was very useful for hemostasis of hemorrhagic diseases of the colon or rectum.
