There are nine genotypes of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in the world. Genotype C is the most prevalent in Japan. Genotype A infection is associated with chronicity in adult infections. The clinical courses of patients with genotype B are better than those of genotype C. The HBV genotypes influence the clinical course and the efficacy of treatment. |
