Title CART: Cell—free and Concentrated Ascites Reinfusion Therapy
Publish Date 2019/07
Author Tetsuya Ito Department of Palliative Medicine, Japanese Red Cross Medical Center
[ Summary ] Cell-free and concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is gaining widespread attention as a treatment option for ascites refractory to diuretic therapy. In recent times, CART is also used in patients with malignancyinduced ascites, as well as in those with cirrhosis-induced ascites, which has been the primary indication for CART. Reportedly, CART leads to improvement in diuretic resistance, fatigue, performance status, and oral intake. However, clinically relevant issues including differences between CART and other treatment options and its effects on disease trajectory remain unclear. Further investigation is required to perform CART in an optimal manner.
